SB 490 has passed!

(8/28/23) Thanks to all of you who supported our efforts to seek funding from our legislature for districts with family medicine residency training programs. SB 490 will provide sustained funding from the stateĀ for the work of the Oregon Residency Collaborative Alliance for Family MedicineĀ (ORCA-FM). OAFP launched this program, which supports all family medicine residency programs in the state, with grant funds in 2019. We sustained it through the pandemic, and now we are turning to the state to follow the example of other states such as Washington, Wisconsin, and Colorado, to provide ongoing support for this critical tool in recruitment, development, and retention of the next generation of family physicians in Oregon. ORCA-FM offers faculty development, resident curriculum development, peer support for program directors and staff, and marketing support for all Oregon programs to attract great applicants to our programs. The funding in SB 490 will allow us to greatly expand what we can offer.
