OAFP Applauds “Group of Six” Statement Opposing Texas Legislation that Threatens Access to Reproductive Patient Care
On September 2, the American Academy of Family Physicians joined with the ACP, ACOG, AAP, APA, and AOA to release a statement affirming their members’ support for the patient-physician relationship and delivery of necessary comprehensive care, including reproductive care and information. The statement was in response to the implementation of a law in Texas that functionally prohibits abortion care after six weeks’ gestational age. The OAFP has recently adopted policy in support of physicians who provide this care, and of individuals who facilitate the provision of this care. We stand with AAFP and our colleagues in other specialties in opposition to such restrictions.
