We would like to invite you to become a member of the Oregon Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP), the largest physician specialty society in the state of Oregon and the only organization that solely represents family physicians.
As a member of the OAFP you automatically belong asa member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) which represents approximately 116,000 family physicians, family medicine residents, and medical student members, and will receive all the benefits of that membership as well.
Together, the OAFP and the AAFP are committed to helping family physicians improve the health of all Americans by advancing the specialty of family medicine through educational support, strong advocacy, up-to-date public health information and member connections.

- You can report your CME in one easy-to-access location; the AAFP makes it simple to track and forward your CME report anywhere, anytime.
- You will receive ongoing support and guidance through the American Board of Family Medicine’s Maintenance of Certification process, including two Self-Assessment Study Halls every year.
- You have access to meetings, conferences, live webinars, online courses, publications and resources to equip you with the latest research and clinical training.
- You can attend the OAFP’s Annual Spring Family Medicine Weekend where you’ll learn new skills and clinical procedures, receive updates on health care legislation, and connect with the most knowledgeable family physicians in the state.
2) Strong Advocacy
- Your interests and your voice will be represented at the state capitol through OAFP’s team of advocates and health policy leaders(including OAFP Past President Senator Elizabeth Steiner Hayward and our own lobbyist, Iris Marie Chavez). We become one voice supporting patients across Oregon.
- You, along with every family physician in the state of Oregon, benefit from the Academy’s voice on the issues that matter most to family medicine – ensuring patients access to quality care, increasing the family physician workforce, and improving payment equity.
- You will be empowered with the information you need to discuss health care issues with your legislators and be able to take part in the only meeting in Oregon dedicated to legislative advocacy for family physicians.
3) Public Health
- You’ll have access to easy-to-read educational materials, in English and Spanish, on preventive health, acute care and chronic disease management to help you care for your patients, families, and community.
- You’ll be empowered with the knowledge and tools needed to address health equity and the social determinants of health that impact your patients.
4) Member Connections
- You are provided with numerous opportunities to learn from and connect with others in your field, sharing experiences, opinions and knowledge that will help improve your practice and the care your patients receive.
- You’ll be able to network with your family medicine colleagues at special events for new physicians, leadership workshops, as well as the events that take place during the Annual Family Medicine Weekend – the Family Welcome Dinner, Foundation Auction Dinner, and Celebration Luncheon.
- You’ll receive the Family Physicians of Oregon quarterly magazine, created just for our members. Articles written by prominent family physicians and health care experts as well as inspirational profiles of local family physicians will keep you up-to-date and in-the-know.
