Key Contact Program
The key contact program matches a family physician with each member of the Oregon Legislature (House and Senate) and our Federal Delegation (House of Representatives and Senate) for the purpose of directly communicating the OAFP position on legislation and regulations of importance to family practice medicine.
Fortunately, being a key contact does not require a large amount of time. A key contact is expected to respond in a timely fashion to action alerts or other requests concerning pending legislation or regulations. The OAFP will supply background information about the issue and a clear explanation of the OAFP position.
There may also be opportunities for key contacts to be resources of information for the legislators; many each year in Salem are new. Through our Key Contacts program, we encourage legislators to turn to our members for impartial and correct information.
Legislators listen to constituents. The success of efforts to improve the law and lessen regulatory burdens may ultimately depend upon the law makers hearing from family physicians who live or have clinics in their districts.
