SUMMARY:Oregon Policy Scholars Inaugural Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The goal of this program is to give participants a deep dive into many aspects of health care policy advocacy\, from association policy making to state legislative advocacy to federal advocacy. Though one key focus of our advocacy is tied to rural physician workforce\, we will approach the aspects of advocacy from a general perspective as well\, so participants who have a range of policy interests will find value from the program. Most sessions will feature brief talks from invited speakers from various parts of Oregon’s healthcare community\, AAFP\, the American Board of Family Medicine\, and the Robert Graham Center.  \nThe September event is scheduled for Tuesday\, September 15 from 6:15 pm to 8:00 pm. The second event is scheduled for Tuesday\, October 20 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. We will schedule remaining events two-at-a-time\, so that invited guest speakers have time to plan (and so do the program participants). \n Participants need to be able to commit to attending two thirds (2/3) of the events in the series in order to be considered for participation in the AAFP Family Medicine Advocacy Summit in May 2021. All events will be in the evening\, and will be virtual through at least the end of 2020\, pending the progress of the pandemic. Travel support is available should in-person events be possible. \n Interested medical students interested in family medicine and family medicine residents should submit a brief (100-200 word) bio and interest statement laying out who they are\, why advocacy is of interest to them\, and what issues are of most interest to them\, and send that to Betsy Boyd-Flynn\, the OAFP Executive Director at bbf@oafp.org by August 28\, 2020.
